ABOUT SIGRID BROWN

“Sigrid Brown” is the pen name of Cheri Johnson, and represents the part of her who stays up too late watching mysteries and has read every Harry Potter novel twelve or thirteen times. Raised in Lake of the Woods County in northern Minnesota. Cheri has won fellowships and residencies from Yaddo, The McKnight Foundation, The Bush Foundation, The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the Minnesota State Arts Board, and the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council. She studied literature and writing at Hollins University, The University of Minnesota, and Augsburg University, and has published fiction and other work in magazines such as Glimmer Train Stories, New South, and Provincetown Arts. Her chapbook of poems, Fun & Games, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2009 and she has also written two series of nonfiction books for young readers for Full Tilt Press. Recently, she collaborated with the composer Julie Johnson, the filmmaker D.J. Mendel, and the new music ensemble Zeitgeist to create a literary performance project based on her short story “Crocus Hill.” Her novel Annika Rose won the 2021 Women’s Prose Prize from Red Hen Press. She lives in Minneapolis, where she is a freelance writer and editor specializing in manuscript critiques and editing for other writers.
